Founded by the Belgian company Trefac, the Meurop brand developed against the backdrop of the growth of the post-war consumer society. The company integrated the entire manufacturing process — metal, wood, plastics, upholstery and textile covering — and established itself as a modern manufacturer specialising in storage furniture and lighting.

From the late 1950s, Pierre Guariche collaborated with Meurop before taking over its artistic direction throughout the 1960s, bringing a rational, elegant and accessible vision of design to the company. Meurop helped make modern furniture accessible to a wider audience, using innovative materials such as moulded plastic and tubular metal.

Today, Meurop creations are highly sought after for their pop aesthetic, enduring modernity and key role in the history of 20th-century Belgian and European design.
