This teak sideboard illustrates the lasting influence of Danish design on European production during the 1960s. Its clean lines, balanced proportions, and the quality of its veneer reflect an approach where aesthetics remain inseparable from function. Designed to offer significant storage volume while maintaining a light visual presence, it naturally finds its place in a living room, dining room, or office.

Renovation of a teak sideboard

The piece has undergone a full renovation in our workshop. The photographs illustrate the different stages of this intervention, from its original state to its current presentation. After dismantling the main elements, the old finishes were removed to recover the natural appearance of the teak and to precisely assess the condition of the veneers. The panels, doors, and visible surfaces were then individually reworked before applying a new finish that respects the character of the piece.

This intervention does not only address aesthetic considerations. The experience of a piece of furniture is also sensory. The contact of the hand with a carefully prepared surface, the fine wood grain revealed by progressive sanding, the visual depth of oil-nourished teak, or the almost silky softness of the touch fully contribute to the pleasure of daily use. These discreet qualities, often absent from mass-produced contemporary furniture, constitute one of the lasting attractions of 1950s and 1960s furniture.

This restoration does not seek to erase the history of this storage unit but to preserve its aesthetic, functional, and sensory qualities while ensuring many years of use.
