- Khmer art from Lopburi, 13th century.
- The story goes that while meditating under the great sacred fig tree, the Bhodi, a torrential downpour befell Gautama Buddha. The King of Serpents, Mucalinda, appeared from the depths of the earth to spread his seven heads over the Enlightened One to protect him from the deluge.
