Ancient Bronze Meditation Kyeezee, Burmese “Revolving Gong
- An ancient revolving gong or Kyeezee, also known as the “Burmese Bell” in bronze, heavy and imposing, its contours are reminiscent of a stupa, or even a Buddha.
- A hole in the top of the gong allows it to be suspended and played. When struck, it produces a deep sound that undulates when the gong is rotated on its string.
- Kyeezee are traditionally used in Buddhist temples to mark the beginning and end of ceremonies, and to call the faithful to prayer and meditation.
- Burma (Myanmar), 19th century.
- Beautiful patina of verdigris, smoke and bronze. Marks of wear and ritual rubbing.
